Navigating different behavioral health providers can be tricky. Here are brief definitions and explanations of the most common provider types.
- LMFT – Licensed Marriage Family Therapist: Provides individual, family, and marital therapy.
- MFT-I – Marriage and family Therapist Intern: Provides individual, family, and marital therapy under supervision of a licensed clinician.
- LCSW – Licensed Clinical Social Worker: Provides individual, family, and marital therapy.
- CSW-I- Clinical Social Worker Intern: Provides individual, family, and marital therapy under supervision of a licensed clinician.
- LCPC – Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor: Provides individual, family, and marital therapy.
- CPC-I – Clinical Professional Counselor: Provides individual, family, and marital therapy under supervision of a licensed clinician.
- PsyD or PhD – Psychologist: Provides individual, family, marital therapy, and may offer psychological assessments.
