LAS VEGAS – Teachers Health Trust (THT), the 42 year old self-funded, nonprofit health insurance plan for educators in Clark County, Nevada, debuted its groundbreaking Health Investment Program last fall and continues to add providers to better serve its members.

“Our Health Investment Program is an innovative model for health care,” said Tom Zumtobel, CEO of the Teachers Health Trust. “We created it to reduce the financial burden of health care for our members and to offer them with more timely access to care with trusted doctors and health care providers. By incentivizing and contracting directly with a select group of health care providers, we can achieve both goals, ultimately improving our members’ health, medically, behaviorally, and financially.”

Available to all THT members, the Health Investment Program contracts directly with a trusted network of local providers strategically located across the Las Vegas Valley who commit to offer priority access to appointments to reduce the wait times for THT members.

Most of the services of the participating providers are covered 100 percent by THT, which means they are provided at no cost to members. Some specialty services are offered at a lower, reduced copay. By THT negotiating directly with these providers through the Health Investment Program, THT members who utilize the program have already saved nearly $235,000.

The Health Investment Program started with providers in family practice, internal medicine, and pediatrics. Since then, THT has added provider partnerships in obstetrics / gynecology, menopause care, physical therapy, lab testing, and behavioral health services for both adults and adolescents. Most recently, oncology and hematology services were added through a partnership with The Oncology Institute of Hope & Innovation.

A unique offering of the Health Investment Program is that members can access adolescent neuropsychological evaluation services (e.g. for Autism diagnoses) with Las Vegas Valley Mental Health for a flat $100 copay that covers the initial workup and care plan. In addition, the Health Investment Program provider has committed to offering these services within two weeks, when typically the wait time could be a year or more for an appointment.

In-home and mobile urgent care were also added at no cost to THT members this year through contracts with Doctoroo, Incredicare Pediatrics and DispatchHealth.

Zumtobel added that THT is committed to continuing to grow the Health Investment Program provider network as well as encouraging THT plan members, both educators and their dependents, to utilize the new program.

“The Health Investment Program is an innovative program not only for THT, but for Las Vegas, and truthfully, for the health insurance industry in general,” he said. “With it, we are dedicated to forging new provider partnerships to serve Clark County educators and their families. Similarly, we remain committed to educating our members on the new program and how its unique benefits can help them.”
